Every day I think about how lucky I am to live in Paris, and I'm even luckier to get to see all those places through Ladybug's eyes. No one knows the city like Cat Noir and I do. Even when we're on a mission, we can't help but stop for a minute and marvel at the magical city we live in.

Marinette, "Marinette in Paris"

Paris is the capital of France and the country's most populous city. It serves as the setting for all the events of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.

Paris Rooftops Painting

Concept painting of the rooftops in Paris.

  • Paris was chosen as the show's setting to complement the show's romantic comedy undertones, as Paris is known as the "City of Love."[1]
  • It is considered to be a character by the production department.[2]
  • Originally, in earlier development, Thomas Astruc considered setting the series in Hong Kong, China, as French animated shows weren't usually allowed to take place in France, but Jeremy Zag supported the series' main location being Paris.[3]
  • The city is the main focus of the webisode "Marinette in Paris".
  • The distance between the featured locations are larger in real life than what they appear to be on screen.
  • Thomas Astruc explained at Comic Con Paris 2016 that Season 1 was limited in locations due to the lower budget. However, for Season 2, the crew has been able to expand on Paris' locations, adding real and important places like the Arc de Triomphe and Sorbonne.[4]
  • According to Victory in the third issue of Miraculous Adventures, Ladybug and Cat Noir are the only superheroes in Paris presently.
  • Ladybug and Cat Noir appear to be relatively unknown by civilians outside Paris:
    • Prince Ali, from the Kingdom of Achu, asks Ladybug who she is after she defeats Princess Fragrance.
    • Vincent Aza knows about Ladybug but seems to be a bit unacquainted with her, as he refers to her as "this Ladybug."
    • Wang Cheng, who resides in China, did not know who they were either, having to ask Hawk Moth who they are when he first sees them.
    • However, Italian exchange student Lila appears to be well-acquainted with both Ladybug and Cat Noir, lying about being saved by Ladybug and being friends with her to her new classmates.
  • While the history of Paris is relatively the same in the show's universe to real life, there are a few changes.
