Hello. I really like Marinette and Tikki. I feel like they're both underated in the fandom. Tikki deserves more respect, she's very sincere, wise and very motivational. That's why I really love her. I love Marinette too, she's very caring for Adrien and everyone in her class. Thank you for being a Marinette fan! ;)
Oh, yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Especially in regards to people questioning Tikki's insistence in keeping their identities secret. She's a being that existed since the beginning of the world apparently, so the kwami has probably seen some traumatizing stuff when identities were revealed at the wrong time. So she should know what she's talking about. Funny and stupid that people are questioning her advice.
As for Marinette, yeah I agree she's underrated. There's no telling what people want from her character. They give her flak for her flaws, yet consider her a cliché for her good qualities. She just can't win in the fandom. Her complexity is actually a lot more subtle and can be noticed if people bothered to look.
I honestly feel like the only one that has Marinette as a favorite character. I feel like she doesn't get enough appreciation -- no, not the appreciation in the ML universe from the people of Paris -- more like the fandom appreciation that Chat Noir receives. It's like the nice ones always get the short end of the stick, unless they have some angsty background that makes them more aware than they should be. It's like Sora from Kingdom Hearts (also a favorite, and kudos if you know that game). Characters like them get an ungodly amount of dislike, even hatred, for not being put through the same experiences as those with the angst. And yeah, I get the world is a cruel place, but let in some light, goshdarnit. It's because of people like them that there's still hope and why the world hasn't gone to complete sh--.
And when people do focus on Marinette, it feels like it's more centered on her mistakes and what she does wrong. Yeah, I know she's not supposed to be perfect, and people like that she's flawed. But is that all she has going for her? I mean, she's either referred to as a Mary Sue or I've heard someone call her a b---- just from one episode of jealousy; either one side of the spectrum or the other, but I believe she's just as complex as the rest of them. As Ladybug, she may be confident to the point of arrogance, but she definitely doesn't think she's better or smarter than anyone else. She even gets annoyed with Chat because she knows it's not the right time (i.e Timebreaker), but otherwise she banters playfully back with him. But she just can't win, can she?
Hero-wise, she may have more spotlight, but Adrien's background is crucial to the storyline. What about her positive traits? How the little efforts she makes in her interactions towards others are often overlooked? The way she offered Master Fu a macaroon after helping him, how she tried to cheer Ivan up after his first Akumatization, how she went out of her way to make sure Juleka would be included in the class photo without her curse, the way she subtly smiles at Chat Noir's dorkiness... are those not worth mentioning? I feel that her generosity and capacity to give (even if she went the wrong way to go about it) is the core aspect of why she was chosen.
In my opinion, I don't think she gets enough credit at all, fandom-wise. You may say I'm wrong, but like all Adrien-lovers, Lila-lovers, and Chloe-lovers, I will defend Marinette into the afterlife.
