This article is about the Fox Miraculous. You may be looking for another Fox, Miraculous or episode named after its concept.

Alya Césaire, here is the Miraculous of the Fox, which grants the power of illusion. You will use it for the greater good. Once the job is done you will return the Miraculous to me.

Ladybug to Alya, "Sapotis"

The Fox Miraculous is a pendant that, whenever Trixx inhabits it, transforms the wearer into a fox-themed superhero with the power of Illusion.

To activate the necklace, the user must speak the transformation phrase: "Let's Pounce". To deactivate the necklace, the user must speak the detransformation phrase: "Let's Rest".

The necklace is currently owned by Alya Césaire, who uses it to transform into Rena Rouge. As of "Rocketear", due to Alya having to help Ladybug from the shadows, her suit changed, and she changed her hero name to Rena Furtive. It was previously stored in the Chinese Miracle Box and only lent out to her when the situation required it. In "Strikeback", it was stolen by Félix Fathom, who traded it to Gabriel Agreste in exchange for the Peacock Miraculous.

In "Destruction", Gabriel used a laser machine to melt down the Miraculous into a pile of dust, and then reforged it into a special Alliance ring for transferring Trixx's power of Illusion to any Akumatized villain who wore a regular Alliance ring.

In "Re-creation", after Marinette Dupain-Cheng manages to recover all of the Miraculous that were previously stolen, she restores the Fox Miraculous back to its original form and gives it back to Alya permanently.

Appearance

In general, the Fox Miraculous is a necklace that appears to have a fox tail pendent attached to it. In charged mode, when Trixx inhabits it, it has a golden chain and the pendent is orange with four golden metal lines protruding from the border, dividing the pendant into five sections, and the sections change in color, from top to bottom, from orange to white with a gradient effect. The backside of the pendant is a flat and gold. If a minor is using the miraculous, the necklace starts running out of power, and it makes a beeping sound, and the sections start turning black from top to bottom (one part is equivalent to one minute) Alya (or another Fox Miraculous holder) has left. After Alya is forced to work undercover as Rena Furtive, the Miraculous changed color from orange to icy blue and white. She also occasionally had an alternate color palette of lilac and white.

In its activated mode, the sections are completely black.

In its camouflage mode, the necklace changes color and form depending on whose possession it's in:

  • In the possession of Alya Césaire, the pendant is divided into two sections, one orange and one white and in addition, the orange section is darker than the charged version.[1]
  • When it was worn by Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the orange segment of the pendant turned pink. The metal chain also turned a rose-gold gold.[2]
  • When it was worn by Gabriel Agreste, the parts of the pendant turned silver, The metal chain also turned silver.[3]
  • As an akumatized object, it takes on a reddish color.[4]
  • In it's reforged ring form, it was a thick band with a circle surface, similar to the Cat Miraculous, inside of it was the symbol of the Fox Miraculous which glowed orange. It used to sit on the middle finger of Gabriel's right hand.

Abilities

Rena Rouge Casual Start

The Fox Miraculous has the ability to transform its wielder into a fox-themed superhero, granting its wielder incredible superhuman powers of speed, endurance, agility, stamina and strength. It also makes the user nearly invulnerable.

Its special weapon is an unbreakable flute, which can also be utilized as both a weapon, a communicator, and an object that can be used to breathe underwater. Its special superpower is named Mirage, which gives the user the ability to create as many illusions as they choose when their flute is played, in order to obtain their goal, like defeating a villain. Once played, an orange-white ball of energy appears at the flute's end which the wielder then throws to create the illusion. As long as the superpower isn't used by a minor, the wielder can remain transformed indefinitely. However, as soon as the superpower is used, the wielder loses power, and the transformation wears off in about approximately five minutes. The necklace also has the ability to give the wielder the costume they truly desire.

Trivia

  • Foxes are a symbol of cunning, wisdom, and passion.
    • In Folklore, Foxes are known for their tricky and are known for shape-shifting in China, Korea, and Japan.
  • In the theme song, the Fox Miraculous briefly appears in the Miracle Box, although it is obscured by the raised middle section of the chest box with the Ladybug Miraculous and Cat Miraculous.
Volpina 174

Lila's forged copy of the Fox Miraculous

  • In "Volpina", Lila purchases a necklace with a similar design to support her lie to Adrien that she is a Miraculous holder, and it becomes her akumatized object.
    • Thomas Astruc reaffirmed that the necklace is from a store on Twitter, acknowledging that the scene where she gets it is very short and easy to miss.[5]
  • In the Miraculous spellbook, one of the codes on the Fox Miraculous page translates to Volpina, but it's unknown if it's the name of the Fox Miraculous holder depicted or an Easter egg.
  • When Lila is akumatized, becoming a supervillain based off the ancient Chinese Fox Miraculous holder, she gains the power of illusion, but unlike the true Fox Miraculous, she can create as many illusions as she wants, unlike Mirage which only grants one illusion before starting the countdown of five minutes before detransforming.
    • As of "Sapotis", it's revealed that the power of illusions is indeed the real Fox Miraculous' power.
  • At the Anime Expo 2016 panel for the show, it was stated that the wielder of the Fox Miraculous (not an akumatized villain based off of them) "will be potentially a recurring character."[6]
    • This was confirmed again at the panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, along with that the Fox Miraculous and its wielder will appear in season 2.[7]
  • Unlike the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses, the active mode of the Fox Miraculous isn't that different from its disguise mode, except that its active mode has four golden metal lines dividing the pendant into five sections.
    • In the Miraculous spellbook, both are shown in their active modes; however, the Fox Miraculous is shown in its disguise mode.
  • Considering the Japanese and Korean influences in the show, along with the apparent Chinese ties to the Miraculous, it's very likely that the holders are based on the fox spirit in East Asian lore, a cunning trickster fox that uses illusions to fool humans and occasionally takes on the appearance of an attractive young woman.
    • The fox spirit appears as the Chinese huli jing, the Japanese kitsune, and the Korean kumiho. Each culture interprets the fox spirit's allegiance and powers differently, with the Korean myths seeing them as purely malicious, but the Chinese and Japanese viewing them as benign, malevolent, or neutral.
  • The holder uses a flute as their weapon, in a manner resembling that of Melodie.
  • Like the Ladybug and Cat Miraculous, the legacy of the Fox Miraculous dates back to Ancient China and spans over 5000 years.
  • The Fox Miraculous, alongside the Mouse Miraculous, was the first instance of Miraculous Unification in the series.
  • In “Kwamibuster”, Marinette unifies the Mouse Miraculous with the Fox Miraculous becoming Multifox.
  • As of "Optigami", Alya was allowed to keep the Fox Miraculous permanently, making it the first Miraculous that Marinette assigned to a permanent holder.
  • As seen in "Mr. Pigeon 72", the one who creates the illusion can control what the illusion says and does.
  • The fact the Fox Miraculous is a necklace with a fox tail shaped pendant is a visual pun for actual foxtail necklaces.
  • It's the ninth Miraculous used for evil, even if briefly, following the Butterfly Miraculous, the Peacock Miraculous, the Cat Miraculous (only in the alternate future in "Cat Blanc" and briefly in an alternative timeline in "Ephemeral" by Shadow Noir), the Bee Miraculous (briefly in "Miracle Queen" by Miracle Queen and in "Evolution" by Monarch), the Eagle Miraculous (briefly in "Miraculous New York" by Miraclonizer), the Turtle Miraculous (briefly in "Optigami" by Senticarapace and later in "Strikeback" and in "Evolution" by Monarch), the Ladybug Miraculous (briefly in an alternative timeline in "Ephemeral" by Shadow Noir) and the Dog Miraculous (briefly in "Strikeback" by Flairmidable and in "Evolution" by Monarch).
